Is VLC media player is supported by HP Pavilion Entertainment Laptop?

Vidya, I think you are misguiding the customers that VLC player does not cause any issue to speaker, Customer service clearly say that VLC is not supported by HP laptops, I request you to inform all the customer whom you had said that VLC is ok to not to use VLC player.

I am talking about VLC media player, downloaded from http://www.videolan.org ,eventhough you recommend VLC media player in many of the topics here but HP service center is not in a position to replace my speaker under warrenty, they give me ridiculous reason, but I thought you would help but nothing has happened till now!!!!!, My laptop is till with them.

My dv6 HP pavilion left speaker has also gone and they say it is VLC and it is not warranty.

Why is this only for HP, I have checkeck ad most other makes will cover warranty and say it is NOT VLC!

Maybe crap speakers?

I had it 2 weeks and it went!  Headphones are fime so it is the speaker.

I have the same issue with my HP Pavilion dv4 1131tx Notebook (S/N: {Private Information Removed})

The left speakers have crackling sound during audio playback. The RHS speakers are working fine

My system was under warranty when I submited it to

They refused to change the speakers. Can you please provide information about VLC to  Mr  {Private Information Removed}

I have been repeatedly saying that, I'm using VLC solely for file conversion and not for audio playback. And I'm using my system for 4 years now. Any set of speakers will require servicing after prolonged usage of 4 years. The service from the service centre has been pathetic and delayed

Online support and online chat were of no help.

Looking forward to some support on this forum

Hi Vidhya,

We had speaker problem in HP COMPAQ 420, we logged the call (case id: 4643575382)for the same, the Engineer came and checked the laptop and he replied the speaker is damaged because of " using VLC media player" and it will not be coverd under warranty.  We spoke with customer care peoples more than hour and they transfered the call with 3 levels, they don't have right answer for my question.

I have some questiones for HP,

1. Why you didn't mentioned this reason while we purchasing the laptop, if yes, produce the warranty document..?

2. Other brand laptops are working fine with VLC. Why not HP..? is that low quality product HP..? are you agree with this..?

3. We want to change the speaker. What we have to do..?

I don't know about the answer that the engineer gave you, as I am not one. But the reason I can see them not covering it because of VLC, is because VLC allows you to turn your volume up to 200%. Twice what the notebook speakers are capable of handling.  It's not just HP laptops, this could happen with any laptop if you push it harder than what it comes configured with, that is just the risk you take. There is a reason that it is limited to 100%. I'm pretty sure it would be covered under accidental damage protection, if you had that warranty protection for your notebook. 

An example would be installing an aftermarket radio in my car that allows the volume to go way higher than the factory radio and this causes me to blow a speaker. If the car was still warranty, the dealership would not replace the speaker under warranty, because of the use of an aftermarket radio allowing the volume to go louder than the speakers ever intended.
