Loss of sound suddenly

my pavilion g6 laptop running Win 7 lost sound.

turned unit on and all of a sudden a BIOS update from nowhere started over my home network and since

then i have no sound at all

I have tried a driver reinstall and a restore - no joy - what now and where in heck did this BIOS update come from?Never

seen anything like that before. HELP please!!!!!!

Hi

You have a couple of options as I see it.

Please First check if the speaker icon on the unit is not muted.

Go to device manager and uninstall the driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.

Click start in search box type Recovery Manager then click yes on user access control then select I need immediate help the select Drivers & application recovery select the driver and install it.

Try doing System restore to the date when the unit was working fine.

Try to update the driver from hp.com website.

Last step is to run a recovery on the unit before this please back up your data.

If still does not work speaker on the unit has gone bad needs to be replaced.

If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the speaker replaced.

Thanks for ur response so quickly. This is very wierd. I use my laptop in the bedroom and have it connected to AC mains without the  battery installed. I went on my desktop today and ur response was there. So I brought the laptop out to my desktop, installed the battery, turned it on and Voila--sound!! That is all I did. It now seems to be working fine. I have no explanation for this. I had already tried most of the suggestions you had made plus a few others with absolutely no success. What do you make of this??
