Bookworm--please accept my apologies for being so nasty.  I'm frustrated.  I know you are trying to help.  It appears to me that a big step has been taken:  HP is now publicly admitting there is a problem.  The engineers are trying to develop a driver, and the company is offering free USB microphones.

I am truly sorry for taking my frustration out on you.

Peace, brother...

Re: Microphone concern on certain HP G60 (500-699) and Compaq Presario CQ60 notebooks.

I just took a customer satisfaction survey regarding my experience with HP's escalation process and the handling of my case.  I gave very low marks.

If you get the opportunity to fill out one of these surveys, do more than I did when you are given the opportunity to write about your experience.  I thought there would be another opportunity to say a few things, but there wasn't.  I had hoped to nail HP better.

Of course, I have no faith that surveys are going to fix the wretched way they have handled our complaints.

No worries, I understand your frustration, did you get a chance to try the new driver yet, I would be interested in your feedback.

Hi All,

I have a G60 series, with windows 7, 64, bought in Canada, and I have this bloody problem with its microphone. I live in Europe, so I don't think I will go through the hassle of demanding a free mic from HP.

I have written an e-mail complaining about this problem and I got a reply from the local support team, saying I should download the latest BIOS from a link in their mail. The funny thing is that according to them, the latest version was F52A, while on my computer (which was bought about 4-5 months earlier), the installed version was F53...

Anyway, I only wanted to ask if using an usb mic solves this problem? I don't want to waste anymore money on this notebook. I am actually contemplating selling it, I am so disappointed of hp, especially for leaving this problem unsolved for such a long time.

Re: Microphone concern on certain HP G60 (500-699) and Compaq Presario CQ60 notebooks.

I had been using a bluetooth headset I have while the G60-535dx's microphone was out of commission. When I got word of the new driver, I went to download it and upon installing received the message "could not find the device for this driver." When I went to check in the device manager and, lo and behold, the microphone isn't even showing up as a device. It's not like there's a way to turn off the microphone (without disabling it, which I never did-- I simply turned the recording volume down), and I am NOT sending my laptop in for another two weeks. What should I do?
