Microphone jack not working

I have an HP G60 Notebook PC and whenever I want to feed something into the microphone jack it records badly. What I'm trying to do is directly feed audio into the microphone jack. I can get it to work on another laptop perfectly but for some reason when I do it on my HP it sounds like its playing back underwater. Its distorted and the volume varies. Any help would be awesome.

Which OS are you using?

Im using Vista. I just got this computer about 2 monthes ago.

I can suggest you to use non HP driver for Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio 221 Driver but since you are using Vista that fully support by HP and with 2 months old of notebook, I prefer to suggest you to call HP first. Call or write email to them and describe the problem you have.

 

However, IMHO, for internal sound card the recording quality is only par not suitable for professional taks.

Call them and let us know the results.
