I upgraded my HP Mini 311 that came with Windows XP to Windows 7. Following the upgrade I found that I have issues with my audio stuttering/skipping. I've tried uninstalling and installing drivers. I currently have the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC and NIVIDIA High Definition Audio drivers installed in my sound section of the device manager.
This is driving me crazy.
It happens when steaming audio via podcasts, Pandora, etc.

I had the exact same issue with mine. Not sure if you have the same issue as I did...but long story short..I had a virus that was running processes in the backround, which caused my sound to stutter as well.

I'm having the same problem and I did some testing and this is what I found. In my case the stuttering happens in some specific applications, mostly when streaming video flash or divx, if I play video offline I don't have that problem. I've tried a couple of things like disabling the "a band" on the wireless adapter which made no difference, the other thing I tried was using Microsoft's drivers instead of the IDT drivers (If you go to the device manager and update the driver and select "let me choose" you get an option called "High Definition Audio") that actually reduced the stuttering significantly but not a 100% I would say about 80%, the downside is that you loose all the configuration you get from the IDT control panel.
I use MSN messenger, and I noticed that if I closed it, made also a big difference, so if you are running any IMs might also be a good test. My guess from what I've seen is that this audio chipset is depending a LOT on cpu, and the Atom is not a powerhouse so it gets bog down fairly easy.
This is what I've found so far, I'd like to know if you find any other workarounds for this problem.

Here's a quick guide to fix the stuttering problem.
* Disclaimer * I take no responsibility if this fubars your Mini. Do this at your own discretion.
Open Control Panel -> Device Manager. Go to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. Choose the Nvidia nForce Serial ATA Controller.
Go to the Driver tab. Click Update Driver. Choose Browse my computer for driver software. Click Let me pick from list of device drivers.
Select the Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller. Click Next, Okay, or whatever it asks for, and you're done.
The computer will need to reboot twice - once for the controller, and a second time to redetect the hard drive.

I followed the fix in this thread for my mini, but it didn't fix the problem. After changing the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller drivers it still plays sound, but the stuttering persists as it had before. I didn't need to reboot a second time to redetect the hard drive as the instructions said I would, if that is significant.
I have tried updating the IDT High Definition Audio Codec drivers to the latest version available on the HP driver download page, but that didn't affect the problem at all. I tried rolling back both the drivers and trying different combinations of new and old drivers, but nothing seems to help.

After hours of googling and trying new drivers I found what the actual cause of the stuttering is: a high DPC latency. This is apparently caused by drivers functioning improperly and seems to be coming from my network drivers as it gets much much worse whenever I download something.
I am suspicious of the HP Support Assistant improperly installing something that I cannot access from the device manager or program list to be able to uninstall it. I deeply regret making use of HPs bloatware when first setting up my computer. It gave me older bios and other drivers than the ones available on HPs site. If the computer had shipped with an actual windows 7 disk then I would just do a clean reinstall, but since I can't do that I may just have to return the computer.

I can also confirm this fix does not work for windows 7. I've tried both windows and hp drivers and amended the controller. If anyone out there has a fix (which is quicker than waiting for windows) please do let us know.
