No Sound Plays Through 3.5 Jack! Please Help!

I've gone through numerous how-to videos and tutorials but nothing will work. It's like my "communication Headphones" option quit working all together?  I plug in and unplug my surround sound and headphone jacks frequently... would this cause a change in the settings? It worked a few days ago and now nothing plays, I'm starting post secondary soon and moving into my dorm tomorrow and would love it if someone could help me out with this problem.

Addition Info:

-HP Pavilion M6 Notebook

-Windows 7

Thanks!

Michael

Try a hard reset:

Did you go through this one:

I just ran into this problem as well. The hard reset did fix the problem however is there a root cause for it?
