Re: No audio device installed after windows vista sp2 update

It sad because Its been weeks and my sound is still gone. I have no idea how to fix this. Well I do have an idea.....I figured out the problem is caused after a specific update (Windows update) but I have no idea which one. I would have to go through each update by reinstalling my computer to factory settings. and check how each one affects it. Maybe if I find that update that disables the sound I can prevent the problem from happening. I might have to resort to sending my laptop in to the geek squad or something =(

Re: No audio device installed after windows vista sp2 update

same here, its been about almost a month,i tried re-installing vista via system recovery(sp1 included),disabled windows update, and tried to delete the sp1 ,but it wouldnt let me delete 3 of the updates or so,but anywho, ,i did a bios flash update,it restarted and so the audio seemed 2 comeback 2 me,but went out the very next night, so i dont know if its the updates(unles the ones frm sp1,but not sp2 "in my case") had anything 2 do with the problem(my problem),but ill reply back if i comeback with a solution, mean while you can check out this website http://noaudiooutput.com/ (if you havent yet),it seems 2 have worked for some peeps(quite alot),unfortunately not me : (

Re: No audio device installed after windows vista sp2 update

HP told me if I ran the health check programme it would solve the problem but I am reluctant to put service pack 2 back on it.

I think I will wait a couple of months and see if they sort it out

Re: No audio device installed after windows vista sp2 update

Yes this is definatly agravating.  It was definatly windows update that did this and I finally took my computer to get fixed, but since I live in Mexico, they told me that it was a hardware problem.  I am not confident that they really know, but I would think that either HP or Windows would have figured out a problem that is as wide spread as this.  I also have tried all those fixes.  I have a Pavillion 9700 with windows Vista

Re: No audio device installed after windows vista sp2 update

well, which updates did you installed before this problem started happening ? sp1? sp2 ? , and yea it might not be a hardware problem(but who knows), but microsoft"windows" supposely knows about this problem, the problem is that there manual solution(s) didnt seemed 2 work for me(or many) and neither that "fix it" program you download frm microsoft, that supposely would fix the issue(s) automatically, but and when it doesnt, it sends you to a "pay per minute to talk to a windows proff." website!, im telling ya, microsoft SUCKS, and so does HP(cuss there shEtt breaks after the "one year warranty"), i am NEVER buying(or recommend) an HP..  and fuKk windows too, THEY SUCK!!

Re: No audio device installed after windows vista sp2 update

Oh, and that "health check" did NOT work for ME!,but i dont think the health check has anything to do with the windows updates, it "checks" for hp updates(bios, drivers, trouble shooting info, error fixings, etc), HP health check might work for some peeps, if you havent updated ur drivers i think, or minor stuff,  but..  didnt fix my sound issue.. but , wouldnt hurt to try it..

Re: No audio device installed after windows vista sp2 update

the nice people at hp sorted me out. Paul in particular

I first installed a bios update

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp44001-44500/sp44138.exe

then I did an audio update

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp43501-44000/sp43935.exe

Then i installed service pack 2 and it all works fine now but you must do it in that order.

Re: No audio device installed after windows vista sp2 update

I had no sound after installing Vista SP2, removing it and restoring also brought my sound back.  I'll be waiting for Windows 7 now, no updating anything to do with audio drivers in Vista.
