And, would getting a USB sound card solve the situation for the no audio? Assuming I've lost all the other stuff. Nother note, the only way I can get online now is through my wireless router, it won't get online direct connect to DSL.

get access to an external drive...
install it on your computer.... and then download and install the data recovery program on this drive...
iCare Data Recovery software, it's free, and its available on cnet.com
it will help you to retrive your most of the data and pictures... ![]()

I did the system restore back to factory remember. Thus I believe it's all lost is it not? With that said, do you think I have a hardware issue with this sound problem. Would a USB hub sound card be the way to go?

There are possibilities to recover files even after recovery using some third party software... and yes the USB sound card will work...

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Might not be until early next week. There are also several times Windows stops working. The whole mess may have started when the windows thing started happening and then there is a prompt for an unknown USB device. I hear this is an issue with HP. I've tried to unistall the unknown device and the bubble keeps popping up after sleep or restarts.

Maybe I missed something, I went through the process and now it's asking me to buy a password to save the files. ?

So u can see your files...
how much is it asking??
consider ... if you have more important files.. you can spend money on that... else let it go....
there are free programs as well but i'm not sure whether they will work after recovery or not....

$90 something. The files are obviously there. No disrespect to you, but you think HP would be happy to help. This is the 3rd HP Laptop I have purchased. I know technology moves fast, but I too am a business owner and I stand my products...$2,500 worth of laptops in 3 years for "average" use, not business use...they ought to help without asking for money.

Yes the USB sound card will work....
when you guys purchase a costly laptop spending $1000 plus.... why dont you spend a little more.. (aprx $100) to get an extended warranty... which will cover your laptop for 3 years... there are more plan... like accidental damage or data protection.....
but yes you need to pay something extra for these services... ![]()
