No sound from internal speakers, Vista64

Hi everyone,

I have a dv9000 (dv9260nr) running vista 64 ultimate and my speakers suddenly stopped working.  I already tried googling all the possible troubleshooting techniques and I have done the following:

Uninstall/reinstall/updating drivers from hp website

making sure its not on mute with volume at level 100

system restore

physically changing the internal speakers with working ones

There are no yellow exclamation marks under device manager and everything says its operational.  The sound settings have "speakers" checked as default.  The sound only works if I plug in headphones or external speakers.  This problem happened right after my game crashed (Fallout 3), so when I restarted the computer, I noticed there were no system sounds.  I'm at the end of my rope and would love some tips in fixing this **bleep** problem.

Re: No sound from internal speakers, Vista64

Have you try hard reset?

Perform the following actions to prepare the computer for troubleshooting a startup problem.
  1. Remove the battery and AC adapter from the notebook.
  2. Remove any optical disks (CD or DVD), and disconnect any external devices or peripherals such as USB devices, printers, docking stations etc.
  3. Press the Power button for about 2 - 5 second.
  4. Plug the AC adapter directly into a functioning wall socket.
  5. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

Re: No sound from internal speakers, Vista64

hi i had same problem with my dv7, however first ask yourself did you do or did your computer do a windows update. i found with my dv7 that when some particular component was updated through windows update it took out the speakers on top. so i did a system restore as a trial and error thing and it worked i tested it again and did a windows update and it happened again the speakers went dead, so once again i did a system restore and it fixed it. however i don't know which particular update it is so at moment i can't update anything...which is crap. if anyone finds out which update is causing problem for speakers running on vista let us know
