I'm looking for help in linking PC to TV. HDMI will not play sound.
I have played arounf with switching on off PC and changing TV input to HDMI.
Picture is fine but only getting sound from PC speakers.
I have IDT high def codec as default (it's that or headphones).
Do i need another driver?
Any help please...
I'm using a Presario CQ71
Windows 7

Hi,
From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and then open Device Manager. Open the Display adapters tree to see the make of graphics card/chip you have installed. Now look under Sound Video and Game Controllers and you should see a corresponding High Definition Audio Codec. So for example, if you have and Nvidia display adapter you should also have an Nvidia High definition Audio Codec.
Let me know what you find under both sections.
Could you also post your full Model No. ( ie dv5-1130ea )
Best wishes,
DP-K

Hi DP-K,
I have Intel Mobile 4 Series Chipset Family and Intel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI as well as IDT high definition audio codec.
The model is Presario CQ-71 235SA
Hope this helps,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Try this. Close HP DVD Play. Unplug the HDMI cable from the PC. In the Control Panel, open Sound, left click once on the Intel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI to highlight it and then click the 'Set as Default' button and click Ok.
Open HP DVD Play, connect the HDMI cable, press Fn+F4 to switch the display to the Tv and inset a Blu Ray Disc and see if you now sound.
Let me know how you get on.
Best wishes,
DP-K

Ok so when i open the sound option in control panel, there is no option for audio HDMI.
In the playback tab there is high def audio codec (default) and headphones.

Hi,
Try reinstalling the Intel graphics driver to see if this registers the Intel High Def Audio Codec in the Playback tab. The driver is on the link below.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp46001-46500/sp46019
After the installation, reboot the PC and then check the Playback tab to see if the option is now there.

DP-K

Hi,
It's strange that the Intel audio codec shows up in Device Manager but is not listed in the Playback tab for Sound. In windows control panel I imagine you have a graphics control centre for your Intel chip. Have you checked in here whether there is an option to enable HDMI audio output?

Hi - yes it is strange to have the HDMI codec listed but not operating.
The only thing in Control Panel I can see is the IDT Audio Control Panel which has some setting preferences, but no mention of HDMI.
Any ideas..?
Andrew

Hi,
Is there no Intel option in the Control Panel to configure your Graphics? - the option to enable the audio may be here.
Also, just to check I'm not missing something obvious here, if you look at the screenshot on the link below could you confirm whether you see the top option ( ignore the fact that it's ATI, i just mean the TV icon ) or not?
