Yesss...the adapter is just like that. P2 a plug with 3 rings and 2 jacks (one mic and one phone), but made manually. As I did not find one adapter or like this here in my city in Brazil, I thought of doing it. Glad it worked!

yeah i did the same...but it only stops the sound coming out of the internal speakers at the same time.

IDT AUDIO still thinks a mic is connected...I can't use the equalizer like how i use to. When you connect headphones, IDT goes to the recording tab. The independent volume control in the taskbar also doesnt work anymore. Its always for 'speakers and headphones' and doesn't change to 'independent headphones' anymore.

Guys,

the user franciscoac has discovered a solution for this problem. We tested this on last weeks and the trouble has gone, but this is not definitive. You will need just a insulating tape (this is a literal translation. We call fita isolante, but i don't know the correct term in english).

See the subtitles (isn't a translation):

Terra = Ground

Fone = Audio channels

Mic = Mic

Fita isolante = Insulating tape

I think  this image is auto-instructional. You'll simulate a phone plug with three rings using a tape on the basis of the plug like the last scheme.

Similar to some of the previous posts, I've now resorted to using an adapter to solve this problem.  I managed to find a splitter on Amazon which is designed to make a single 3.5 mm mini-jack into two; apparently having only a single jack is common on some Apple and Dell models, although I've noticed that the newer DM1 models now have two jacks.

So the cable goes from a male 4 pin 3.5mm mini-jack to 2 x female 3.5mm mini-jacks, one labeled as mic and the other headphone.  No need for using masking tape or anything.  On the IDTcontrol panel it now shows that both jacks are plugged in.  So far so good and not costly.  However, still think HP should have addressed this problem.

Oh and a very big sarcastic thanx to HP for this problem they couldn't be arsed to sort out or even warn people about upon purchase, god forbid they'd be honest and loose sales!

I may have solved the problem. I typed "jack" into the start menu search bar, and clicked on "manage audio devices", clicked on the "recording" tab, and I could see here when the audio started messing up the mic device was switching from "internal mic" to "external mic", so I clicked on "external mic"-"properties"-under "general" tab at the bottom it says "device usage", i disabled the "external mic" there. I also under the "advanced" tab uncheck the box that allowed applications to take control of the mic. I hear a scratchy noise when I mess with the plug, but unless i'm touching it, it doesn't mess up. I hope it stays this way as I just did it about 10 minutes ago, and have had no problems. Hope this helps.

One possible workaround using software is to uninstall the IDT driver and use the one built into Windows. That driver does not have the problem, although I don't know if the audio works properly and you miss some features.

Hello HP??? Why don't you issue a driver update to solve this problem?

• The cause is known,
• Everyone who uses headphones with this driver is affected,
• It is possible to fix because the Windows built-in driver works,
• And it seems a simple fix anyway....

I also wonder why some other recent laptops with IDT sound have newer driver versions than for this one (but they have the same problem on the dm1). Do HP stop pushing updates after a certain period, even though the hardware concerned is the same? Why don't they have a system in place that updates the driver for all laptops that have a certain chip? I tried to download a generic version from the IDT website, like is possible for Realtek, but they don't offer one unfortunately.

Is HP even aware of this situation?
