I am not familiar with that laptop (or if it even offers SRS), but I would tell you to check the specific downloads page for your model as BIOS are often machine specific (at the very least with the dv series, AMD vs Intel). It seems like dv3-2000 can be any number of a model of notebooks, so you want to make sure you have the exact model.... Find it here:
The problem for me and the original poster seemed to be that something in BIOS F.52 changed the way Windows looked at the High Definition Audio Device. If your problem stemmed from a recent BIOS flash, I'd try flashing back to the one that worked best (at least for me, I was able to flash to an older BIOS version without tweaking the WinPhlash files at all).
If you've never had SRS, I would make sure that your model supports it in the specs (the monitor bezel on the dv4-1220 has it, so I was annoyed when the BIOS killed it!)
I did notice that BIOS F.52 has been pulled from the dv4-1220us download page -- must have been causing others problems.
Take a look on your product page and see what BIOS/audio drivers versions are available. My advise is to fully uninstall the audio drivers, do a device uninstall via Device Manager to be extra thorough, visit the dv3-2000 drivers page and download the latest, and reinstall.

I have a dv7-2180eg and am having the same problems. I flashed my bios and went back to the previous version. I also uninstalled my audio drivers and reverted to an older version. Nothing has worked. The drivers say they are high definition drivers, but all it recognizes is the two speakers rather than all three, which results in incredibly tinny sound because the third speaker is where the bass comes from. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello Larsad,
I understand you state you do not have any sound on your computer, is that correct? I will try to help you resolve that issue.
Before we get started, can you please provide the full make and model of the computer you have. If you are unsure how to locate that information, have a look at this link for assistance.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.
Thanks
