Re: Random volume control popup HDX 16

I occasionally have the volume control popup problem.  Updated bios and quick launch keys as directed above.  Hopefully that will correct the problem.

I have another problem though.  I get a popping sound on the upper right side of my computer when I open a website or click the volume on/off button on the quick launch pad.  Is anyone else experiencing this and does anyone have a solution/suggestion?

Specs:

HP HDX X16T-1200 CTO Premium Notebook PC

Vista 32-bit

Bios F.24 A

HP Quick Launch Buttons 6.40.17.2

Re: Random volume control popup HDX 16

Anyone know which process or service controls the MediaSmart toolbar?  Is that what causes these problems? Can I kill it in Task Manager to prevent these annoying popups every 1.3 seconds?

Re: Random volume control popup HDX 16

I have been having this same problem... volume box flashes on the screen... wireless goes off. After 3 hours with tech support on livechat, countless updates (wirelss, sound, quicklaunch and BIOS ) I'm being told I need to reformat my  hard drive and I will lose EVERYTHING in my computer if I don't back it up to an external hard drive.  My question is to those who have sent their notebooks to HP for repair.... did you have to do this?  Where the able to fix the notebook without reformatting the hard drive?   Does  anyone know how to fix this without reformating?  Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Random volume control popup HDX 16

I am having this same problem and it's really frustrating! 1. I sent it back to the store I bought it from tech support, they had it for a week and 'fixed' it...still had the same problem.  2.  Sent it to HP to 'fix' again...worked great for about a week...now I'm starting to see the volume control pop up again and wireless issues.  To the commenter that said he WILL go back to Dell...so will I.  This is so ridiculous; for the money I have/am spending on the PC you'd think I'd have a FLAWLESS system.  They need to recall these.  Anyone have any support/solution from HP on this issue?

Re: Random volume control popup HDX 16

I just wanted to put my 2 cents in.  Sames issues, treble, bass, wifi disconnect and have updated everything.  If they try telling me to reformatted, I will be spreading the word about how bad hp has gotten

Re: Random volume control popup HDX 16

I have called support about 4x. Once we did a hard reboot. Second we deleted and reinstalled drivers. Third reformatted computer. 4th turned off the touchsmart bar at the top of the keyboard.  No changes. Still the same issue as you mentioned.

Not what I expected.

Re: Random volume control popup HDX 16

[ Edited ]

I surrendered this week.  Was giving a presentation to some clients.  Lost internet connection because the WiFi popup kept disabling/enabling.  Then the volume popup took control of the machine and I couldn't even get a keystroke in.  Had to hold the power button down and force a reboot.

I've given up on HP and will NEVER buy or recommend another HP laptop.  Ordered a new Dell laptop on cyber Monday.  I'll pull memory and harddrive out of this thing and then run it over with my truck.

This piece of crap has lost me too much time and business.  I honestly cannot believe HP is aware of the problem and has not made ANY effort to contact the affected owners of these defective laptops.  As a small business owner, these are the types of things I feel obligated to share with the other Chamber of Commerce members.

I have updated all drivers and BIOS repeatedly.  I re-installed the OS.  I bought a new hard drive and re-installed on that too.  I even went out and bought a new copy of Vista 32 (was running 64 bit OS).  Installed that on a new drive.  No luck.  I admit defeat and will move on.

Re: Random volume control popup HDX 16

Have heard that the problem is caused by the Nvidia GeForce 9600 video card that is installed on the laptop.  the card has been known to overheat and fry the motherboard.  I have noticed with my laptop that if it's been on for a long time I have more problems with the volume/wifi prob.  Lately I haven't had the problem as much but also have not left my laprop on for more than an hour or 2 at a time.... hasn't solved the problem but it has stopped happening as often.

Has anyone tried replacing the video card or had their motherboards checked for damage?  I wish I could say I can replace the laptop but unfortunatley can't afford to at this time... hoping to find a way to solve the problem and get the laptop running the right way....  I'm sooo disappointed with the way HP has handled the whole situation... why hasn't there been a recall?  Anyhow.. still looking for advice on a real SOLUTION to the problem...

Re: Random volume control popup HDX 16

Was on with support again. I am not happy but sending it back to HP.  I will keep you posted.  I disabled the quick launch and the pop up went away but if I were trying to listen to something it was still going on and off along with the wireless connection.  I have another laptop at home no issues.
