I too have this problem with my HDX-16. Volume, bass, treble controls pop-up in the middle of the screen and the wireless goes off. As with everyone else, NOTHING solves this problem = HARDWARE issue. Doubt if I will be getting another HP.

No resolve over the phone.

there was a computer having the same issue but it was a dv8 but i downloaded the tone controll from the software and driver downloads and it seemed to fix the issue so i suggest seeing if there is a tone controll on the support and drivers page for your notebooks and see what that does, also still do the bios update and all others and see what that gets ya

There are many threads in HP forums about this, and I don't want to let any of them go. As far as I know, there has been no fix for this problem. I updated Tone Control program and it lessened the problem, but didn't eliminate it.. I expect HP to find a fix for this (hardware or otherwise) and stand by their product. To spend this much money on what at the time was one of their flagship laptops, this kind of problem left unrepaired is unacceptable.

i sent it back to HP and so far everything seems to work. I am disappointed in HP also a lot of time was spent on a casual use laptop.

I followed instructions from HP support to unistall what you requested. It didn't work.
Again ended up sending it back, it seems to be ok yet the bar that used to come on the screen no longer does.

Part Solution I have the same problem, but here is an answer for the tone bar. If you are having a problem with your "tone bars missing or looking messed up" It is because you need to reinstall the ".NET hot fix". You may need to reinstall the audio drivers and software on the disk or hard drive before you update using the website. This problem has nothing to do with the quicklaunch drivers...... the drivers are located on your driver cd "SwSetup\Win7Dir50" if you got the upgrade to Win 7 Program. Name "dot4fix_005.exe" probably in your system restore if you got your laptop after. I am going to post the hotfix and my finding on this posts problem , as i have seemed to have that fixed.. I am glad I found this post. HP acted like they had no idea what the problem was, told me to update my Bios before I installed the quicklaunch. Unfortunately the POPUPs and wifi were still a problem. But so far no problems and I need to take the laptop and stress it under warmer conditions before I post a solution.
Edit : I forgot to mention to either remove the HP tone control software or only use ver.1 , but you do not need it for the tone bars.

i have had same issues. volume controls go up/down without me even being close to my laptop.lose wireless connection. all this occurs at random times. i noticed that the volume goes crazy more when i am watching a movie, playing games or listening to music or even when i touch the controls.
i have read up on this and have done everything recommended, restored laptop to factory settings, updated everything, and still no luck. some things did help but did not get rid of problem fully.
i have emailed hp and they told me the same things as i read up on and they told me i would have to send it in. i just received the box hp sent for me to send it back to them and will be doing so asap. i dont know what they will try to do as i have done everything recommended by others who have same issues and by hp.
i will repost any further news.
also i noticed that there are 2 different volume controls that appear on my screen. one that has a black background with volume, treble, and bass bars and then the other that has the single bar of whichever control is pressed. i am wondering as to why this is.if anyone know
