Re: Reinstalled IDT audio driver now no sound on HP Mini 210-1100 Windows 7

Hi,

I ran through the list of drivers per your instructions.  No audio.

The driver version 6.1.7601.17514 dated 11/19/2010 made the speaker mute button stay lit all the time Windows ran until I switched to another one.  All of these drivers created different control panel windows with different settings, but I could not change any of them.

I got a response from IDT, but it seems to explain the same path we've been on:

______________________________________________________________________________________

The symptoms you've described sound like a driver other than the one intended for your exact computer model and operating system version is being used. If you do not intend to use the independent Communications Headphones endpoint for RTC applications such as Skype, please right click the device in the Sound playback control panel and set it to “disable”.

We suggest completely uninstalling the audio driver via Add/Remove Programs and Features in Windows control panel. Then reboot your system and then (clean) install the latest audio driver, "System Software" and BIOS available on HP's web site. Download the most current driver specifically listed by HP as supporting the *exact* model number and *exact* OS version of the system loading the driver. If either the computer model number or the OS version listed as supported do NOT match the system being used, then the driver almost certainly will not work properly. Note that certain OS versions may not be supported by HP (for example, Windows XP is not a supported operating system on many new computers).

Please note that it's imperative for you to download the driver that is specifically intended for the system you plan to run it on as the audio drivers are NOT generic. They are in fact, uniquely identified for the system they are intended to run on.

IDT is not allowed to provide drivers to users/consumers per the request of the computer manufactures, who desire consumers to contact them. Please contact the maker of your PC, notebook or motherboard for a driver or driver update.

If you are not able to work the audio controls or achieve the desired setup, contact your computer maker as the feature you desire may not be available or your setup may not be compatible with the actual hardware. Grayed out items are not supported because either the computer hardware does not support it or the computer maker chose not to enable it. IDT is not able to modify drivers for consumers, only for the computer maker.

If looking for a different operating system driver (like an upgrade to Win7), please see your computer maker’s website for support. If they are not offering that operating system driver, it is likely that the computer maker is not supporting it on your model, and thus IDT cannot provide it. Please note that changing the operating system may violate your warrantee from the computer maker.

Is there a way to find and install the "exact" driver version I had before all this began?

Re: Reinstalled IDT audio driver now no sound on HP Mini 210-1100 Windows 7

Hi,

Using recovery Manager should reinstall the IDT Audio driver should install the version your notebook originally came with - see below for details.

Recovery Manager - Windows 7

Just as a double check, open Device Manager, open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers, right click on the IDT device and select Properties.  Click the Details tab, choose Hardware Ids from the dropdown box and post back with the details shown under Value.

Hi,

I recovered the driver from the Recovery Manager.  No audio.

Driver installed is version 6.10.6272.0 dated 2/22/2010 (same as the last one from the March 27 driver list rundown).  When I try to look at the IDT control panel it reports: "Unable to connect to COM interface".

I checked the services to try to start audio.  It starts and stops as before.

Here are the Value listings from the Device Manager, Hardware Ids:

HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_7605&SUBSYS_103C3660&REV_1004
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_7605&SUBSYS_103C3660

Thanks.

Hi,

Ok, we'll try an alternative method to install the IDT driver and see if this helps at all.

First, download the following IDT installer and save it to your Downloads folder.

IDT Installer 1.

Next, if you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip.

When installed, open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer you've just downloaded, select 7-Zip, select 'Extract Files' and click Ok in the next Window.  When this has completed, you should see a new folder with the same name as the IDT installer - cut the new folder and paste it onto your Desktop.

Now open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - when asked if you wish to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.

When this has completed, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.

sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )

Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.

Shut down the notebook.

Tap away at f10 as soon as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

Let windows fully load, then open the folder you pasted to your Desktop, right click the setup application ( 7th from the bottom with a size of 368Kb ) and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.

Let the installation complete and then restart the notebook - has this made any difference?

Regards,

Re: Reinstalled IDT audio driver now no sound on HP Mini 210-1100 Windows 7

Hi,

I got through your instructions to the point where I shut down the notebook.  That's where the frustration level rose.  I usually copy and paste your instructions to a text file due to the loss of the browser at the point of restart.  This time, I copied the restart instructions on paper because of the nature of the restarting sequence.   I attempted to tap away at f8 as soon as I started the notebook to enter the bios menu many times.  After multiple restarts and questioning myself on the use of the combination fn and f8 keys upon restart, I read the "HP Mini 210 Service Guide" to see if I was using the keys correctly.  I saw there that I should be using the f10 key instead of the f8 and that on this notebook I must use two keys to do it.  I returned to your instructions the next day to see if I copied the numbers down wrong, and I saw that I should have been using the f10.

I attempted to "tap away at f10" as soon as I started the notebook to enter the bios menu.  I never got to the "Press f5 to load the defaults" etc. part because I never accessed the BIOS menu upon startup.  I noticed that the text on the bottom left of the screen says to "Press ESC to access the start menu".  I tried that too, but I keep seeing Windows starting up and have to repeatedly shutdown at the user login selection screen opportunity.

Is there something that I'm missing here?  Is there another way to access the BIOS menu rather than to hold down fn and f10 keys at the moment of startup?

Thanks.

Re: Reinstalled IDT audio driver now no sound on HP Mini 210-1100 Windows 7

Hi,

The document for your notebook on the link below mentions just pressing f10 to access the Bios Menu when the screen is blank, just after starting - however it also seems to indicate the the required key could also be f2 or f6.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00364979&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lang...

Let me know if none of these options will allow you to access the bios menu.

Re: Reinstalled IDT audio driver now no sound on HP Mini 210-1100 Windows 7

Hi,

I attempted to access the BIOS menu using f2 and f6; no difference.  I tried to use the ESC button again, since that is what appears shortly before the Windows OS begins.  At first, it didn't work because I was holding down the key WHILE I was sliding the start switch to on.  I tried starting the notebook and immediately pressed the ESC key multiple times.  This time the computer responded by displaying a short menu which included the f10 option to the BIOS menu.  I held down the fn key and the f10 key but nothing happened, so I released the fn key and pressed the f10(it also has a speaker+ icon) key alone, it took me to the BIOS menu.  Apparently, to use the f keys, you must NOT press the fn key simultaneously with the desired f key when the computer is not running Windows.  This is the kind of stuff that drives me nuts about using computers.

I completed your instructions and restarted the notebook; no audio.  All the earlier indicators we worked on are displaying the same results as before.

Thanks again.

Re: Reinstalled IDT audio driver now no sound on HP Mini 210-1100 Windows 7

Hi,

Try the following check on the file system and again, let me know if there is any change afterwards.

First, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - when asked if you wish to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.

Next, click the Start Menu, click Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties.  Click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'.  In the following window make sure both boxes are ticked and then click Start.  Agree to schedule the check at the next system restart and then restart the notebook - this process can take a couple of hours to complete before loading back into Windows.

When windows has reloaded, download and install the IDT Driver package on the link below ( this is the same version that Recovery Manager would reinstall ).

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48501-49000/sp48796.exe

Re: Reinstalled IDT audio driver now no sound on HP Mini 210-1100 Windows 7

Hi,

I performed the sequences as you instructed.  The scan returned "C: The volume is clean" within a few seconds.

I reloaded the IDT Driver and restarted; no audio.

I checked the playback devices window from the taskbar and it still shows that "Independent Headphones" is the default communications device, with the "Speakers and Headphones" shown as the default device.  When I check the Recording tab, the window shows "Headset Mic as the default device" (I don't have one), and at that point the window freezes up and I have to use Task Manager to force it to close (as before).

Re: Reinstalled IDT audio driver now no sound on HP Mini 210-1100 Windows 7

Hi,

The file check seems to have completed far faster than I would expect.

With reference to my previous post, after you click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors', were both of the following boxes both ticked before you clicked Start?

Automatically fix file system errors

Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors

Also, if you have a set of headphones, could you let me know whether you get any audio through these.
