There are 17 instances of audiodg.exe that show as running.
For the Sound, Video and Game Controllers, the only device shown is:
IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

Hi,
Hold down the Windows key and press R. In to the Run Box type msconfig and hit enter. In the System Configuration window, click the Startup tab and take a Screenshot(s) of all the entries here. Now, click the Services tab, put a tick in the box next to 'Hide all Microsoft Services' and then take a screenshot(s) of all these entries.
Upload these images with your next post.
Regards,
DP-K

Hi Jordanjd,
The crackling, static sounds were my original complaint. I tried to reinstall the sound driver, but when I did, all sound was lost and the speaker icon in the Taskbar has a red "X" through it. As you can see from the previous posts, I have been working with DavidPK to try to fix this. I posted a reply on March 18th, but he hasn't replied or posted anywhere since then.
I have since uninstalled any software that I thought might be a sound conflict and any others that I no longer use, but sound is still off. It's been a couple of weeks without sound for me now.
You might try starting a new string message and see if someone who knows your problem could help you. I cannot.
Make sure you list all the information this site recommends, like your machine model and operating system, and anything you changed before the problem started.
Good luck.

Hi,
Sorry about the length of time in replying to your previous post, but I've been working away from home for the past week.
Can you let me know if the Plug and play service is set to automatic and whether the service itself is shown as started.
Regards,
DP-K

Hi DP-K,
Thanks for your continued support on this problem.
The Plug and Play service is set to automatic and that service is shown as started.

Hi,
You're welcome ![]()
The next thing I would suggest trying is to ( temporarily ) uninstall Steam - when the uninstall has completed, restart the notebook.
When windows has reloaded, follow the procedure below again.
--------------------------------------------------
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp4930
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - when the prompt to remove the current driver appears, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load. Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button.
--------------------------------------------------
Check if you now have any audio.
If you don't, open Task Manager and check if there are still many instances of audiodg.exe shown as running.
Regards,
DP-K
