Restoring Sound on HP Dv2845se

The problem I am having with my dv2845se is really weird. I am running Windows Vista x64 and my soundcard is Conexant SmartAudio 221. I attempted to downgrade the dv2845se but that did not work so I restored the original vista operating system using my recovery disk and installed the original sound drivers. The sound worked for awhile and then failed the computer has also had problems with not turning powering on when the computers power button was pressed. I recently reinstalled the sound using the drivers from Realtek but that only worked for a day. I can't uninstall the conexant drivers so trying to restore sound using Device Manager and detecting new hardware is no good. I am a student and I don't have enough money to send the computer in for repair. The computer is only a year old and should be functioning just fine but its not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Restoring Sound on HP Dv2845se

If I may summarize you statements as:

1. Attempted to install XP but fail --> your model can be downgraded successfully, please post if you need help for it.

2. Attempted to restored Vista 64, but the sound stop working --> maybe do to wrong driver.

3. The notebook failed to boot, pressing power button would not turn it ON --> try link below

4. You can not effort the cost if it needs "luxury support" from HP since you are out of warranty.

I'm not working for HP, so do NOT worry about the costs. It's free of charge :smileyhappy: and maybe if you were lucky, HP employee that willingly use their own time to help you in this case.

What is the current status?

When you press the power button, do any lights came ON?

Do you hear the fan spinning?

Is there any visual on the notebook display or external monitor.

Try some steps as describe in link below

Notebook Does Not Startup or Boot Displaying a Blank Screen

BTW, your sound chip is conexant not Realtek and all of your vista64bit drivers can be found in your model page, here

Please post If your notebook has recovered from start up problem.

After that we can recover your sound problem.

Good luck

Re: Restoring Sound on HP Dv2845se

The SPDIF Interface is Realtek so thats why the driver worked for awhile. It installed the SPDIF interface and then Conexant was automatically detected. The sound is working now but I haven't restarted the computer yet so who knows if it will still work after that. I went ahead and switched my BIOS version from F.27 to the one immediantly before that. The problems actually began before I attempted to downgrade the computer I viewed downgrading as the solution. Apparently the F.27 revision was supposed to increase transfer rate of certain types of RAM so my theory on it is that the F.27 BIOS is unstable. Multiple complaints have been issued about the sound on this particular model and one thing they all have in common is up to date drivers and BIOS. I got sound to work but uninstalling and reinstalling Quickplay and Quicktouch. Next time I restart the computer I will see if I still have sound. Sound has worked before for a short duration until the computer has been shutdown or restarted then I usually get an error message saying "Quickplay has encounter a problem and needs to shutdown".

Re: Restoring Sound on HP Dv2845se

It does not work that way.

Uninstall the current realtek driver, reboot, then install conexant from your support page.

From HP page for BIOS F27

Enhancement:

Resolves an issue where the data transfer rate is low for some memory cards.

It was not for RAM but for memory cards. If you dont use your card reader frequently you may skips this update.

It does not mean that the BIOS is unstable.

I have an intel version of dv2700 series, for intel platform there is also an update to fix the transfer rate of memory cards.

Up till now, I'm still using the original BIOS from factory. :smileyhappy:

Sound problem has nothing to do with install/uninstall QuickPlay or QuickTouch, or any other programs.

Cheryl G has amd version of dv2700, please pm her.

Good luck

Re: Restoring Sound on HP Dv2845se

I've already uninstalled the realtek drivers and I did have the sound working. As for the computers problem of not turning on I solved that with a hard reset. The moment the computer was restarted the sound failed to work. I'm going to try getting the original factory drivers installed and see if that does anything.

Re: Restoring Sound on HP Dv2845se

Had sound problem also.  Almost a year to date of purchase sound went out.  Somehow the sound came back but then computer completely died.  I took it back to Best Buy where it was purchased and they said motherboard was shot.  I thought this was a good computer but now I am not so sure.  Since it was a few days over warranty they couldn't do anything.   I heard about heat problems but had a cooling fan for it so I am not sure what happened.

Re: Restoring Sound on HP Dv2845se

Here are the symtoms that signal your HP machine will completely die soon...

1. Soundcard: most of the time not detected though proper driver already installed (don't waste your time by unload then reload with drivers since your hardware isn't detected at all) - Sometimes, when the soundcard is detected, it should work just fine.

2. Power button: can wake up the machine from sleep mode ok. However, when the machine had shut down, first it may take several 'push' or 'press' on the power button to make the machine to run. Then, gradually, it would take more numbers of 'push' or 'press' to start the machine.

3. Entire Machine: 100% stops responding. Mine totally died after 7months after noticing the initial unusual signal.

I bought this DV2845SE brandnew from Best Buy Outlet for almost $850.00 - I loved this machine when it worked.

I was told by HP tech that the mainboard was most likely damaged but need further diagnostic upon having the laptop sent to them....honestly, I rather put it back on ebay for someone to fix it for extra profit than paying extra for HP.
