Sound coming from my laptop

I have an HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook PC

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Dua CPU   P8400 @ 2.26GHz 2.27 GHz

Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB

My laptop has a noise coming from it as soon as i turn it on and until i turn it off. i think it is a fan noise. when i do something like convert videos, the sound gets even louder. How can I stop the noise?

I have a noise problem also.  I think it may be feed back from the web cam audio.

Has anyone given advise on solving your problem?

no, i havent gotten any tips to solve it yet...is yours a sound from your speaker or from the fan like mine is?

is it a kind of whirring noise? slightly different from the regular fan sound? Being that its loudest starting up and converting files etc. it sounds like its your processor. there's not a whole lot you can do to make it quieter. It will be loudest when you're doing things that take up a high % of your cpu, like gaming, converting files, starting up, watching movies etc.

i think its more like a humming noise. theres constantly a soft humming noise but when i start doing things like you said- converting files, starting up, watching movies- the humming noise gets loud and annoying.

is there no way to make the noise softer? if i get a new laptop, what kind of processor should i get so the humming noise doesnt happen?

well, you can try cleaning the fan out with compressed air. I found my processor was louder when it was hotter, if that doesn't work I dont know what else there is you could try. I just got a laptop with an i5 processor in it and other than starting up, I can barely hear it. i5 or i7 should be good, I wouldn't get an AMD processor, my experience with them was not good and I've heard other people have had alot of problems with amd aswell.
