Sound on my laptop is not working

My computer is the HP Compaq nx6110 Notebook, and the operating system I use is Windows XP.

There seems to be an audio problem with my laptop. No sound is coming from it.

I checked my device manager and it comes up with an exclamation mark within a yellow circle by the subheading: "SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio."

Also I checked my control panel and had a look at the Sound and Audio Devices. Under the hardware tab I clicked on the SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio. For that it comes up with the Device Status as: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

I don't have a copy of the CD to re-download the hardware back on to my laptop. Furthermore I tried searching online to find one but wasn't sure which would be suited for my laptop.

I tired using system restore however this did not correct the problem.

What can be done to solve this problem?

Re: Sound on my laptop is not working

Hi DP-K

I've been having some more problems with sound on my laptop recently. I was hoping you could help.

Every time I listen to music or watch a video on my laptop there is a constant clicking sound which also seems to be coming from laptop through the speakers and headphones.

What can I do to stop the clicking sound?

Thanks

Rachita
