Speakers and headphones play at same time

So, this may have been from my laptop (HP Pavilion, Windows 7) slipping from my lap and my headphone jack ripping out of the port too hard, but when I plug any headphones in, sound still plays from the speakers as well as from the headphones. When I test 'independent headphones' on the device manager, sound only plays through the headphones, but it will otherwise play through both.  I have no idea what to do at this point, so if anyone could help that would be fantastic

happened to me once, but then i pressed reset defaults and it fixed. hope it works for you.

Where did you press 'reset defaults?'

and set defaults..

I don't see a set defaults button in the hardware and sound window.

If you mean setting the defaults in the playback devices window, that doesn't seem to do anything.

I've tried updating the sound drivers and setting everything to every default possible. Nothing is working.

Alright, so I did a bit of looking around and it seems as though the jack isn't reading the insertion of the headphones as just that, and is instead assuming it to be some other device and thus not working propely. Does anyone know how to fix that, or is it a physical problem?
