Hi,

Can you post back with the following.

1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook ( from the service tag underneath your notebook ) - see Here for a further explanation.

2.  The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 32bit ).

Hi,

What version of Windows are you using?

From what you describe, this is likely to be a problem with the insulation around the capacitive strip - try a Hard Reset as follows and let me know if this makes any improvement.

Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.

This is a problem for me as well,

Sometimes the bass and treble controls will pop-up on screen and completely wig-out (turn itself up and down erratically) and there is no way to get rid of it. Is there anyway to completely disable the touch strip controls? I dont like or want them anyway.

I found a older Discussion Board with the same issue: "HDX16 Quick Launch Button Issue" and a Facebook Page "HDX 16 Recall" that provide a lot of different solution.  Some more a high tech type solution.

Check this two out and you will see this is an old issue and base of what I read, is not a software issue, but a hardware problem with the smartstrip connection.

Hope this help.  I'm still working on mine.  The solution of taking out the battery and doing a hard shutdown work for a while.
