audio lags behind when running on battery

Hi all.

 

Recently supplied 2 HP550 Notebooks to a friend for his daughters, and while I was setting them up I noticed that:

 

while on AC the audio works perfectly well.

while on battery the audio lags behind by a second or two, is very slow.  It isn't jittery or stuttery, just slow and lagging.

 

Anyone had a similar experience?

 

Anyone got any ideas to solve it?
