audio quality for hp beats

I was hoping to ask for some advice on the poor quality of sound I get from my new Hp laptop (DV7  4069). Music played on it sounds shallow & tinny at best despite the presence of a subwoofer & audio beats technology. The Hp beats audio settings panel does not make any substantial difference in my opinion. I naturally draw  comparisons with my last laptop (Hp pavilion ze2000) which with its altec lansing speakers had fantastic audio quality. Makes me wonder  what all the hype is surrounding hp beats technology sadly.

Any suggestions to get a fuller, better sound? Many thanks

I just got my laptop yesterday and I've been trying to figure why the beats audio sounds like doo-doo.

I found a way to make the sound balanced and not uber choppy.

Go to Control Panel > Sound

Click Speakers and Headphones > Properties

Under Enhancements choose what you would like to enhance.

I clicked Bass Boost, Virtual Surround, and Loudness Equilization.

Next is the most important, click Levels.

When I first clicked this my Bass was set to -20 and my Treble to 4. 100% polar opposites and this was the default settings!

I set my bass to 4 and treble to 0 and I don't hear and crackling or clipping. I'm happy now.

You may also need to play around with the equalizer levels in the Beats Interface to get it just right for you, but the Beats Tour setting sounds decent now.

I hope this helps.

Re: audio quality for hp beats

The problem I'm having with my sound is this vibrating buzzing sound that I hear on the far right hand side of my keyboard in the number pad area in the upper right. I hear it most when I'm watching a movie or talking on skype and even certain bass parts on songs.

Here's a video on the problem thats happening with some other people...

Re: audio quality for hp beats

I bought HP ENVY 14 in october 2010 and never had any problems until few days back. The problem is that the right speaker isn't working properly. i mean i can hear good sound from left speaker but almost no sound from the right. Whats worse is that i'm not able to hear the sound properly because the output has gone down substantially. I've gone through the previous posts and threads that spoke about sound or speakers as such and did all the background check and found absolutely no problems with the software or sound settings. The software and settings are just fine. I'm afraid its the hardware(speakers). Any suggestions?

well i think that beats audio is purely software based and not hardware based. the problem that someone had on the above post, about "polar opposites" causing very bad sound, is actually what the settings change to when you deactivate beats.

It is my belief that hp made it that way so that we would think beats is SO awesome. What it simply does is mess your equalizer settings so it will sound like sh*t. (reduces bass to zero and maximizes treble, therefore making music sound like crap)

If you press Fn+B (activating Beats audio) you'll see that you'll have good sound again. Tried and tested on my DV6-6091NR!

PROOF: Go and open the window "Tone Controls" where you see Bass and Treble. Now hit Fn+B. You'll see the levels changing! Hit Fn+B again, and it goes back to where it was.

Re: audio quality for hp beats

I have always suspected beats audio was to make us stupid and sell pcs.

Now this was the proof!

Stupid HP!

I have a 6180 SP.

The GPU is OK with 2 Gb but the display is very bad, it has no contrast, had to lower the gamma, a bit better now... The sound is awful and beats audio is a scam, it is false pub! That's not legal!

Fortunately I also have an iMac and use it to listen to music at home. The sound difference is enormous.
