dm4 media players cannot read codec

[ Edited ]

HI,

so my problem is that whenever i try to play movies, cds, clips, music... on any type of media player the sound doesn't play. I have used gom, vlc, wmp, itunes, quicktime, wmp with k-lite codec and none of these have been able to play any type of file. at first i thought it was a player problem but after trying all those, i thought it was a driver problem. I updated to the latest idt high definition audio codec and the players still couldn't read so i tried my versions of the driver and it still couldn't play. now i have returned to the latest version with fustration. I would be truly grateful if someone could help.

ive had this laptop for 3-4 weeks. it is a dm4 1060us. i5 2.26ghz intel graphics windows 7 home premium 64-bit

if there is anything else needed to help solve this problem, i will be glad to share.

btw youtube and games play sounds

Re: dm4 media players cannot read codec

I too had this problem.  Some programs (Pandora) still played sound as did the computer in general.  Others (Zune, Windows Media Player, etc.) did not.  Turns out it was a problem with the IDT Driver Extensions.  I opened the sound mixer and tried to select a different device for output.  I got a series of error messages telling me there were problems with the extensions and I disabled all of them.  Everything seems to be working fine now.
