external microphone to speakers

Hello, I just bought a "HP Pavillion DV7 - 1253ca" multimedia laptop which I just bought a couple of weeks ago. Right now I have an external microphone connected to the audio input, and external speakers connected to the two audio output jacks on my machine.  I need the input from external microphone to be redirected to the external speakers that I have connected my PC to. This does not happen on my PC. 

There are two audio drivers installed on my machine  

IDT High Definition Audio Codec

NVIDIA High Definition Audio.

I have updated both the drivers from the Device Manager in the control panel, and they are up to date.

Any Ideas what I can do to redirect the sound coming in through external microphone to speakers.

hello, anyone found out the solution to this... This is crazy... Its a major problem with no answers. i have seen some regedit solutions but nothing for the dv7 audio drivers. idt ect...

oh i forgot to say that most of the regedits that i have seen are not in the dv7 as well. so what do we do ???

After doing much research this is what I found out. The problem is not with the HP laptop but with the Vista operating system.

They have removed the feature of adding playback devices. This is a microsoft issue and not a HP issue.

WOW cant believe they would do this... There must be a way in the regedit... I have looked everywhere. Im kinda disapointed in this do you think if we change to windows 7 it will be solved???

Try this...

First we need to identify driver. Your default drivers are found in Start> All Programs> Recovery Manager> Recover Manager> Advanced Options> Hardware Driver Reinstaller. It will show all device drivers. Try reinstalling your sound drivers there then look for play back devices on the sound manager located on the system tray. At Audio devices play back should be set to output device then for recording choose the appropriate mic. Hope this helps...

Hello, thanks for the information. The driver is a IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. The reinstaller was of no help. There where no options. for this. Anyother ideas would be apprecieated!

Well if thats the case please try this... There is a sound recorder application in your notebook. Try doing a test record and play it using the external speakers. There can be cases where in the sound card cant voice out the mic realtime...

Hello, i have the recording prog that you speak of and it works good and plays through the external speakers. I would like to know where in the options is the speaker monitor function that used to be in XP. I simply would like to play my ipod through my external speakers on my laptop like i did before i switched to vista. you can not hook a mic into the laptop and hear your voice come through the external speakers anymore... There has to be a way or reg function that will let me see the monitor settings... Thanks again for your time.
