how do i connect external speakers to my hp pavilion dv6 6136nr

I want to connect external speakers to my HP Pavilion Notebook, DV6.  The HP online store sells speakers--which I don't want--and says I need an available 3.5mm audio port.  I can't find that in the parts store or accessory store.  Where can I get this audio port and do I really need one?
