lost sound from laptop computer was intermittent now lost, headphones OK

Hi. My HP Envy17 PC i5 64 bit notebook,  has serial No.CNF114OX7K   Prod No. WY769AV  

I have had the sound drop out and come back occasionally, then it bacame more regular. I tried to restore to earlier and got it back. But it has now gone completly. I have checked forums and tried restore and checked all settings to no avail

about a month ago whilst searching for a solution, a message popped up and it said that media player was corrupted or damaged, I have tried to find that message since to get full details of it but I can't find it.   Can you suggest a solution.?  Headphone jack works OK.

Hi

1) Try a Hard Reset as follows.

Remove any devices connected to the notebook.  Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook - check if the speakers are now working.

2) Go to device manager and uninstall the Sound driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.

3) Try to update the driver from hp.com website for Audio & Bios and have it checked.

4) Try Microsoft fix it.

I tried all of your fixes and none worked. I get the "whoop Whoop" on start up and the headphones work but no speakers.

Hi

The last steps you can do is a Factory reset before this kindly back yp your data as it will be lost. Incase after Recovery as well unit does not get sound then you need to replace the speaker.

Restore the PC to its original condition using the f11 key

Hi I was about to try the F11 reinstall and couldn't find my restore discs. so I started the computer and lifted the front a couple of inches and let it fall, I had sound back for about 2 seconds.   I believe it is a dry joint problem.  Niot a software issue? what do you think and if so how do I go about getting it fixed here in Australia?.  Regards Mark

Please check if your unit is still covered by HP Warranty please contact them and get the part replaced.
