mp3 driver deleted by mistake

I have mistakenly deleted the mp3 driver from my HP Mini running Windows XP so Media Player can no longer play mp3 format.  Where can I find drivers to download?  Thanks

Re: mp3 driver deleted by mistake

Hi:

Did you somehow uncheck themp3 file type as the file that can be opened by WMP?

There are no mp3 drivers that I know of. It is a file and it needs to be associated with a program to open it.

Go to your WMP control panel and set it to the defaults.

You can also change the file associations based on what operating system you have.

Google "Changing file associations"

Follow the instructions to change the file associations for the OS you are running.

Re: mp3 driver deleted by mistake

Hi Paul

Thanks for your reply.  I think I may have given you the wrong information.  My wife uninstalled a program she described as "mp3".  Now media player refuses to play an audio version of the Economist that we get.  The error message says that there is a problem with the sound device or there may be no sound device on the computer.  When I go to options in Media Player and get to the "sounds and audio devices properties" page it says "no audio device".  I assumed that she had deleted drivers for mp3 but ffrom the sound of your e-mail that is not the case.  The mp3 file type is checked.

Our operating system is XP on a fairly new HP mini notebook.  As you have probably guessed, we are not IT geniuses.

Thanks

Ken

Re: mp3 driver deleted by mistake

Hi, Ken:

It sounds like she uninstalled the audio driver.

Please provide the full model # of your PC, so I can send you the link to the audio driver to install.

Re: mp3 driver deleted by mistake

Hi Paul

You were right, it was the audio driver.  I went to the HP site and downloaded the driver for my computer and it is working fine now.

Thanks again for your help
