pavilion DVD 6500 sound & dvd

My sound and DVD have stopped working in windows vista home premium.  I've un-installed all recent software products.  Scanned for malware and viruses, downloaded updated drivers, and finally I've done a full system restore.  Both the sound and dvd showed up initially.  After un-installing unwanted software the sound and dvd stopped working again.  Any suggestion as to what I need to do next would be great.  Thanks.

What did you uninstall?

Do you have any unknown devices in device manager or is your audio device showing up correctly?

Also when you say you restored the notebook did you do a System Restore or a Recovery, I just ask because sometimes people mix the two up and it will help.

Have you lost all audio, even system sounds or is it just from when you play DVD's?

Have you tried it in Safemode?

Not yet, but I found many forum posts showing how to fix it!
