I run a HP Pavilion dv9925nr Entertainment Notebook PC and the sound has totally stopped working. Under device manager there doesn't appear to be audio drivers installed any longer. The volume isn't muted on the light panel but is on the task bar. Please help! I've tried several things and fixed it once but the next time the computer restarted it was the same story.

Hi,
If it was working before you can try System Restore and check.
I think your system originally came with Windows Vista 64bit and then was upgraded to
windows 7...The problem seems to be driver related..
To fix this make sure all windows update are completed...
Once windows updates are completed install HP Support Assistant and perform all the updates.
If that doesnt work then run this microsoft fixit:
Diagnose and fix sound playback and audio problems automatically
Let me know what happens..

What is the error message when you ran the fixit and windows update?
Also run the hardware diagnostics once and check..You'll have to tap F2 when the system is turned ON as mentioned in the link below:

Try running this fixit..Do not select the aggressive mode while running it..
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336
Once the system restarts check updates again...If it still gives same error then Perform a clean boot > Restart and Run the same fixit again..This time check the Aggressive Mode while running the fix and check.

it gave me the same problem after restarted but at least drivers were present under device manager and I was able to resolve with minimal effort. Woke up this morning and it's the same thing as before, no sound and no drivers present...ugh.

This issue happens sometimes for upgraded Windows 7 where everytime the system is restarted windows loose the installed drivers. Just check which audio drivers gets installed-Realtek or Conexant ?
Were you able to install all windows updates and HP Support Assistant ?
Please sequentially try all the steps from the link below and check once again...
No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7)
I guess you have the Windows 7 upgrade disc and HP recovery disc for windows vista. If none of the above steps work then you may have to backup your data and perform a reinstall.
Let me know what happens after performing the above steps and will check if there is anything else that can be done instead of reinstalling.
