Really disappointed with HP services and reliability.
its a shame for their image that 5-10 days old laptops are having such issues.

I am having the same problem!
What I think the computer is doing is trying to keep the volume at a constant level. When songs are quiet, it automatically turns the volume up to meet max volume.
The issue can be heard through all external devices and with audio from any program.
"Unchecking" Beats Audio does not fix the problem, and neither does reinstalling the drivers.
I called HP Tech Support and they have no idea what it could be. They have yet to call me back.
Did you ever find anything that helps?

i have also called HP technicians.....they just told me to update all the chipset ,bios,audio drivers...but i have already installed them.......they also told that if the problem persists than decrease the" space" in the beats audio setting to zero......
after setting space to zero the sound fluctuation decreases but not fully.......
by going through various forums and through my own research i found that following settings will improve the sound quality......
sound settings for beats audio for better sound clearity and reduced sound fluctuations....
FOR LAPTOP SPEAKERS- under music option
bass= 80
treble=45
centre=50
space= 0
65hz=3
125hz=5
250hz=3
500hz= -2
1hz= 2
3hz= 1
6hz= -2
9hz= -2
12hz= -1
under movie option
bass=80
treble=45
dialog clarity=75
65hz=3
125hz=5
250hz=3
500hz= -2
1hz= -2
3hz= -1
6hz= -4
9hz= -4
12hz= -4
FOR HEADPHONES
under music option
bass=0
treble=0
centre=50
space =50
and choose beats in- ear under graphic equilizers......
FOR EXTERNAL SPEAKERS
choose settings according to your bass and treble requirements.....
but to reduce sound fluctuations i suggest to either do settings in MOVIES mode....or if using MUSIC mode than drop down SPACE to zero...
NOTE- IF YOU ARE FEELING THAT SOUND FLUCTUATIONS ARE STILL OCCURING AFTER DOING SETTINGS IN MUSIC MODE THAN I SUGGEST TO USE MOVIES MODE SETTINGS FOR LAPTOP SPEAKERS...

All that frequency band stuff only masks the issue, which is always there.
Besides, if Beats Audio was the issue, shouldn't turning it off fix it? Perhaps you can't even turn it off, since unchecking the box seems to do nothing.
I think it's absolutely ridiculous that this issue has been around for years, and even the new models (mine is a month old) have this stupid sound leveling.
I'm thinking of buying a mac...................

HP has proved to the world that they are mediocre in front of competition like Dell due to their incredibly poor after sales services combined with pathetic quality of their products.
