Hi,
When vista first boots up I always get the error "sttray.exe unable to lcoate component. This application has failed to start because STLang.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." Then when I click okay etc etc I get a notice that IDT PC Audio has stopped working.
So far I can't see any problems occuring because of this, but I'm not sure what's going on as I'm unfamiliar with this notebook. I recently ran many windows updates and driver updates from hp.com.
HP HDX 16-1140US Notebook. Vista 64bit
Thanks!

I have this exact same error.
I tried to uninstall the IDT High-Definition Audio CODEC driver ( 6.10.6047.5 A ) for my Vista x64, but the installation always has an error and will not complete.
So I actually have no way of reinstalling the audio driver now.
Does anyone know of a solution?
Thanks

Hey,
I'm not sure that this will help you but I seem to have solved my problem. I'll let you know what I did just incase it's of any help.
I went to computer management - device manager-sound, video, and game controllers. Under there it had listed IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.
I went to the properties and checked to make sure there were no updates etc etc and it said I had the most up to date version (but we already know it's not working properly with the error). I disabled it, uninstalled it, and chose the option to delete the files from my computer.
On reboot the error message was gone so I know that was the problem. I also had sound anyways, not the high definition but there was still sound which was reassuring. Anyways I went back to hp.com and put in my pc model number and reinstalled the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC from the support and drivers page. It installed version 6.10.6047.5. Rebooted and recieved no error message and the driver seems to be working.
Now I know you said that you were having trouble installing the codec so I'm not sure that this will help. Oh also when I went to redownload the codec from HP it said I already had those files and did I want to overwrite them. I chose yes to all to make sure I had all fresh files.
Hope this helps or that your problem has been corrected.

Hey,
Thanks for the reply. I solved my problem in a different way, although I think your method probably is the "better" way to do it.
I kept trying to uninstall/install the IDT High Definition CODEC from HP's site to no avail, but I think your method might've cleaned up the driver to make it install properly.
What I did was simply bring up the Recovery Manager software from HP which came with my laptop, and there was the option to recover any software/drivers that came with my laptop.
So I simply selected to recover the IDT High Definition CODEC driver, and voila! All the error messages were gone and I had the correct IDT driver running.
I hope this helps anyone else having this issue.
