Hi,

Download and reinstall the HP OSD Utility on the link below.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55152.exe

When the installation has completed, restart the notebook.

Regards,

Excellent.  Worked like a charm!  Many thanks.

I should have asked about the screen display that shows when the laptop mouse pad is locked or unlocked.  It went away as well.  Is there a directory of these sp*.exe fixes?  I'm curious what happened to make these go away.

Re: volume display went missing - HP Pavilion dv7-6168nr Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Hi,

You're welcome :smileyhappy:

I'm not certain why these issues have occured, however it can often result from an update that was not specifically for your particular notebook - ie Windows device updates.

All the software and driver downloads available for your notebook can be found on your Product Support Page.

Regarding the Touchpad issue, try the following.

First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52501-53000/sp52661.exe

Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall.

When this has completed, restart the notebook.

When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

See if you now get the OSD when turning the pad On/Off.

Regards,

Re: volume display went missing - HP Pavilion dv7-6168nr Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Seems like one remaining problem.  The desktop images that are supposed to alternate to different scenes are stuck on 1 image.  Could this be a driver issue as well?
