HDMI not working using windows 8 - 64bit

Hello,

I have recently purchased the following product:

Product Name: HP Pavilion Ultrabook 14 - b130sa

Product Number: D2Z32EA#ABU

Operating System: Windows 8 64-bit

Graphics Device: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000

The problem I am facing is that when my LED screen is connected to the HP laptop through the HDMI connection, it is not detected at all (always giving: No Signal on the LED screen).

As soon as I connect the cable to another laptop with Windows 7 it is detected instantly.

Any help on this one is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: HDMI not working using windows 8 - 64bit

Hello akfarrag,

Your laptop will not connect to your external display.

Make sure that the BIOS and graphics are up to date.

Here is a link to the updates.

After connecting the monitor to the laptop, hold down the windows key and press the letter P the will move the image over to the external.

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.

Re: HDMI not working using windows 8 - 64bit

Hello Anthony,

Many thanks for your reply.

I have already updated my graphics card + Audio drivers (as was suggested by HP maintenance department) and still nothing happened.

Holding down Win Key + P OR using the F4 function to toggle between screens just doesn't detect a second monitor, not even a flicker!!!

Any ideas??

Re: HDMI not working using windows 8 - 64bit

akfarrag,

Go into device manager and uninstall the display adapter and turn off the computer.

This will uninstall and reinstall the driver for the graphics.

Here is a link to device manager.

As you turn the computer back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.

When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.

If the display is not working.

Right click on the desktop screen and go to resolution and select detect.

Let me know if the second monitor is being detected.

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.

Hello again,

Unfortunately nothing is making any difference :smileysad: I have tried as well another brand new HDMI cable but didn't do anything.

Re: HDMI not working using windows 8 - 64bit

akfarrag,

In case it is software that is causing the problem, you should refresh windows.

This will uninstall and reinstall windows without affecting your personal files.

Here is a link that will walk you through the steps of a refresh.

It could be that port is bad on the laptop.

You might need to call HP and see what repair options they have.

Here is a link to a number to call HP.

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.

Re: HDMI not working using windows 8 - 64bit

Many thanks Anthony for your follow up with me :smileyhappy:

I have contacted HP already and they told me the same as you said (regardind Audio and Video setup and they were with me on the phone for 45 minutes but with no result).

I have changed the laptop with a new replacement and still same problem so definitely not the hardware.

As for the software bit there should be something wrong.

What is different on my new machine is that if I choose duplicate for example, I can see an extra monitor tab that appears (still nothing on TV) on the resolution page which is a start.

Within the Intel Graphics driver it says (Monitor / TV settings are not supported). It looks to me this message has something to do with what I am facing, what do you think??

Thanks again.

Re: HDMI not working using windows 8 - 64bit

akfarrag,

When you go to the resolution page, if it shows a second monitor, can you click on the second monitor and change the settings to a different resolution?

Re: HDMI not working using windows 8 - 64bit

I have did that and tried loads of different resolutions, nothing is working....

As well, this laptop doesn't have a VGA connection though it keeps on saying connect via VGA...

In my old laptop it is just plug and play without having to adjust anything on Windows 7.... I don't think it should be this difficult....

Re: HDMI not working using windows 8 - 64bit

akfarrag,

It’s not supposed to be this difficult. It is plug and play.

I think that you need to update the chip set driver since you have the integrated graphics.

Here is a link to the updates.
