H Envy 17
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

The f9 - f11 buttons on my keyboard control my music.

  • f9 = previous track
  • f10 = play/pause
  • f11 = next track

These worked fine up until a few days ago. Now they don't work at all. I've also tried combining them with the fn key, but the still don't work.

I'd really love some help trying to figure this out. I use these keys frequently, and it's starting to really irritate me.

I'm not sure what info is needed, but here's what I found:

Product name: HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC
Product number: G0U21AV
BIOS: F.34-12/19/2014
Keyboard revision: 77.35
Total memory: 12.00 GB
Processor name: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4710HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz

I tried your first suggestion and didn't get anywhere. However, I was playing around a little more with different key combinations, and I found a combination that works! For anyone else with this same problem, try pressing the following key combinations:

fn + alt + f9

fn + alt + f10

fn + alt + f11

Thanks for your help!

Hi @CJwrite

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your Keyboard Hot keys not working correctly on your HP ENVY 17 Notebook. Thank you for all the information you have provided.

You could try in the Control Panel, Clock, Language and Region, Language click Advanced Settings in the left pane.Then in Advanced settings, click Change Language bar hot keys. In Text Services and Input Languages, click Change Key Sequence button and enable the the key sequence.

Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that could be missing or not updated.

Hope this helps you out.

Thanks.
