No Sound from my HP dv6120

Hello I have no sound from my internal speakers on my HP dv 6120. I read one post about a person who had a different laptop and was told that they had to go into the registry and change user settings to make the speakers work again, but I can not find the post again. If anyone can help that would be great.

Re: No Sound from my HP dv6120

i have a similar (if not the same) issue 0n my dv5.  whenever i connect with an hdmi cable if i let the computer sleep it loses sound.  all settings show sound should be coming out.  if i restart the computer i get sound back.  i tracked the problem to the idt audio monitor.  i wasn't able to find any patches or idt updates but if you go to msconfig and disable the idt audio from the startup list the problem stops.

Re: No Sound from my HP dv6120

 I think you mean this post sjfilek:

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=Sound&message.id=925&query.id=101330#M925

Speaking of which, I have this audio problem too, nonworking internal speakers, but working headphone jacks.

I'm not too sure if the method that the above-linked guy provided will work on mine though. Somehow Realtek HD Audio driver does not recognize the **bleep** internal speakers (I know the speakers work properly cuz default windows HD audio driver allows it to play sounds, but realtek driver has desired options).

Re: No Sound from my HP dv6120

For dv6120 xx, the sound chip is conexant, so realtek or IDT driver will not work.

For dv5 the sound chip is IDT, lead to a different way to troubleshoot the sound problem.

@devonackerson, please start your own thread, I'll try to answer there.

@sjfilek

Check the external audio port, plug-in an external speaker or headphone. If the sound came up, then it could a hardware and driver problem.

Have you update the driver lately?

Try to reinstall sp35849.exe, (1/1 , 3.57M)

@Jerre_G, are you using the same model as sjfilek?

Re: No Sound from my HP dv6120

No my model is dv6935, and it uses Realtek HD driver. My external audio port definitely works thru audio speakers or headphones, and I don't think it is hardware problem with the integrated speakers, because if I uninstall Realtek driver and the computer auto-installs the lame windows hd audio driver, the internal speakers work.

I do need the realtek driver for its functionality / allowing me to use the quickplay panel / auto-detection-and-switch between headphone and speaker output, though.

I have in fact tried very old and newest Realtek drivers, all of them exhibit this same issue. I'm beginning to think it might be some obscure registry problem, but have nowhere to go with that.

Re: No Sound from my HP dv6120

@Jerre,

I recommend you to start your own thread, let this thread for dv6120 model.

BTW, the fastest way to solve your problem is a factory install of OS.

You have mix-up Realtek drivers, installing many versions of drivers without a proper clean uninstall procedure would lead problem as yours.

Good luck

Re: No Sound from my HP dv6120

Was this issue ever resolved.  I have exactly the same problem, and it just started all on its own.  I read in another post that this series DV6000 is prone to ribbon cable problems that affect the speakers.
