I have no sound on the speaker of my laptop (pavilion - g6) while chatting on the facebook.

I see, on the screen, that there is audio signal for the headphones, which I do not use.

When I chat on Skype everything works fine, there is no problem whatsoever.

The problem started after  the last  updates were installed.

Hi Themis_dr

The easiest thing might be to just boot into Save Mode and try using System Restore to "go back in time" to just before those last updates were done.  See if the sound comes back.

Start > search / type "resto" > Click on "System Restore"

Help Documents:

Entering Safe Mode in Windows 7

Using Microsoft System Restore – Notebooks – Vista and Windows 7

I hope this helps!

           Hi Dragon-Fur,

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll check it out  tomorrow.

Eventually the problem I had with sound on facebook got fixed all by itself  about two days after it appeared.

I don't know how this came about, and I admitt that I'm a bit curious to know, but sound really returned on facebook chat  without me doing anything with regard to fixing the problem.

Themis_Dr,

I am glad it's fixed!

It could have just been the mute was set on your browser and you finally un-muted it at some point.  ??

For the future, whenever sound stops working, pull up the sound mixer and give it a quick look.  I admit it's not something you would ordinarily miss, but it's worth checking.

Have your Browser open and Facebook open... and whatever else is having sound issues:

Right-Click Sound icon (from Task Bar) > Open Sound Mixer >  make sure sound is "on" for all devices.

Found this (for future Reference):

If you're using Internet Explorer, make sure this option stays enabled:

  • Click Start > search / type "inetcpl.cpl" > Click inetcpl.cpl
  • Select Advanced Tab
  • In Multimedia section > Scroll down > Select (Check) "Play sounds in webpages"
  • OK
Have Fun.  Thanks for posting back.

I have tried all the previously suggested fixes and still it does not work.  I have no problem on Skype or Live Messenger when I used it.  People can hear me but I can't hear them.

This problem has NOT yet been solved.

Win 7, Pavilion, no sound on Messenger.  Setting is proper, sound ok for YT. elsewhere.  Sound console, not turned off, all at max.  Using Firefox.  If it was a FF problem there would be no sound other places.  Same if computer problem.

Asked 'help' via Facebook. got back the standard boilerplate, case closed. But no help.  Of course.

I don't use Skype or other browsers.

Restore will do nothing as problem started longer ago than I keep restore points.

Important to fix this as the lack of sound for incoming keeps me tied to the computer when waiting for important messges.
