Why don't my speakers turn off when I plug in my headphones?

I've got an HP G62 laptop.  When I plug in my headphones, my laptop speakers don't turn off.  Why is this and how can I fix it?  Thanks to anyone who can help.

Re: Why don't my speakers turn off when I plug in my headphones?

When you plug in your head phones, the sound will automatically be used on your head phones, so it turns off the speaker's on your laptop, and switches to your head phones.

To fix it go to

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound

From that just select the speakers on your laptop as default.

I am having the same problem on my laptop, and when I do what you have suggested, it only show speakers and headphones.
