I left my laptop in hibernate mode for almost half a day, so that I could easily start what I've been doing. When I returned, I discovered that the battery ran out of charge, I plugged it and waited for a bit but when I pressed the power button, the computer has this beeping sound 1 long followed by 3 short beeps.

I would like to know what the problem is and if it can be fixed and how.

thank you for you time!!
p.s.
i'm kinda close to freaking out about this

OK. So this is that moment when you feel it's a condition where contacting HP would make things easy.
But if the diagnosis is board failure, please be informed of cost of replacing with new one vs just going for a new laptop for yourself.

Hope my posts helped you,

Hi purplethumb

I'll try helping you in this,

According to the beep,
1 Long and 3 Short beeps may indicate a memory failure, or that a memory module has become loose. Try re-seating your memory and see if that helps.

It can also indicate a faulty power supply - battery

Try this:
First do a hard reset:
Follow the steps given in this document -

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768

Then,
Test for hardware failure both HDD & memory sticks, of any failures found - HDD/RAM has to be replaced:
Follow steps given here-
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01443317

If beep still there:
remove CMOS/RTC battery (small silver watch-battery used for proper functioning of time/date in laptop) after opening up back cover ---
Here's the user manual for the steps: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01295820.pdf

reinsert cell after an hour or so.

power on after connecting the AC adapter

reset bios to default, follow is document to get help regarding the steps : http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07110

I tried all of those, but none of them worked... the beeping is still there even though I removed the rtc battery and put it back after an hour or so like what you said. Thanks though!

Did hardware test fail or pass?

Did you try reseating the memory stick?
You could try reseating hard drive following the procedures in the manual & do the testing again.

If it's not worked, might be better to contact HP in your region.

i did try the hard reset but it won't boot, I just got stuck with a black screen and the beeping, i didn't get to do the hardware test either
