Can I use recovery disks on a new hard drive on a dv4?

I know the hard drive is toast in my dv4. Can I use the recovery discs I made when I got the computer to load a new hard drive?

Re: Can I use recovery disks on a new hard drive on a dv4?

Yes you can. That is the purpose of having the recovery media.

Replace your hard disk with one that is of equal or larger capacity. That does not mean use a larger than 750 GB hard disk unless yours had one installed when delivered.

Re: Can I use recovery disks on a new hard drive on a dv4?

Why then after receiving the Factory restore Disks, can I not restore the new Hard Drive?  Tech support says I must have the SAME size 320g HDD and not a 500g drive.
