DV7-4073nr - Fingerprint reader is not working after HP Support Assistant upgrade

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I have a problem right now. The HP support assistant suggested that I should upgrade the fingerprint software to be upgraded and I promptly did it. On rebooting, the reader does not work. windows 7 says it is a bad data. neither hp password does work. what should I do?

Re: pavilion dv7 4073nr entertainment notebook

Power off the computer and Once you turn ON, Keep pressing F8 key repeatedly to load "Windows Advanced Boot options" screen. In this screen either select Safe mode/Safe mode with networking and logon to your user account by entering password manually.

Once this is done, perform a system restore through Control Panel and restore your computer to an earlier date whenever it was working fine. After restore process is done, change settings of HP Support Assistant to not auto install updates

Re: pavilion dv7 4073nr entertainment notebook

I tried that yesterday, and it tried to restore for 8 hours. It never finished and I gave up because the screen was so bright I didn't want the monitor damaged. Do you think it had to run for over 8 hours to restore a computer that is new and I've hardly used or do you think it was hanging up? I don't like the fact that it doesn't give you an estimated time to complete or a percent left to complete either.

Re: pavilion dv7 4073nr entertainment notebook

I have found out for certain people the system restore in safe mode doesnt work. In those scenarios, In control panel > user accounts remove password for the user account and save changes.

After this is done, log into normal mode and reinstall fingerprint software.

In the below link certain people have posted various workarounds and solutions for this issue

Re: pavilion dv7 4073nr entertainment notebook

I was having the same problems on my dm4 and did the system restore.  I changed the update settings as you suggested.  How do I decide which updates to install so I won't diable the fingerprint reader again?
