Just received my new 8760w last weekend and I setup the HP Protect Tools (HD encryption, fingerprint access, facial recognition). Windows 7 (64bit) then tried to install SP1 and failed. It let me reboot the computer, but every once and awhile (about 30% of the time) the system would hang between using fingerprint to authorize at the BIOS check and actually loading windows. The little crappy annimation would show, but when the screen normally goes black and the mouse pointer appears, the system would just hang up. Well after about 10 hours of playing with trying to restore to a windows restore point (had about 8 of them that day and NOT a single one would restore properly because of the bing toolbar not able to be restored properly...I KNEW I hated that thing!) I finally broke down and restored to system defaults and started over again.
Up until this reset, the biometrics were working flawlessly. Each of the fingerprints recorded allowed me past the BIOS and into Windows as well as a few other applications I had installed. Afterwards, the only access that still worked was with the BIOS. Then I reset all my fingerprints using the HP Protect Tools again and now none of the systems recognize the biometric fingerprint (haven't had time to check facial recognition at this time).
Any ideas? I've used the tools to disable the Windows Logon and Pre Boot security hoping this would allow me to start from scratch. But that didn't work.
Thanks in advance, any ideas to resolve this are appreciated.
Todd
