Did all that you asked. It goes through the restore process and says it was successful then it restarts, shows the windows is loading files screen then the repair screen again that says start up repair cannot repair this computer automatically.

Hi,
I would definitely suspect that this is a problem with the hard drive.
When you ran the test on the Hard Drive from the bios menu, did you have an option to run a 'long' or 'comprehensive' test also?

Hi,
Shut down the notebook. Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu. On the first tab, can you post back with the product code next to the Hard Drive.

I edited my post, I ran the tests again and saw it had run both tests consecutively. I cannot see a hard drive listed unless you mean the UUID?

Hi,
It would seem that HP have discontinued supplying this drive, so I'm going to have to ask you to remove the Hard Drive again and post back with the details written on it - mainly the manufacturer ( Western Digital, Samsung, Seagate etc ).

DP-K

Hi,
Using another PC, download the ISO on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/seatool
Next, download and install the free application ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.
When created, boot your notebook from the CD and run both the Short and Long test as described in the document on the link below.
http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/
Post back with the results.
Regards,
DP-K

Hi,
First scan was OK, half way through long scan.
Just wanted to ask, Would the spilling of beer on the keyboard have damaged the harddrive? As I had said in my first post beer spilled on the keyboard, I wiped it off then after using for around half an hour the screen display turned 90 degrees and the keys would not work. My insurance company sent it off to be repaired. When I contacted the repair centre I was told they had got it working but it was running REALLY slow, which was strange as it never had done before. The chap I spoke to suggested re installing all the software using my recovery discs. When the laptop was delivered today I booted it up and it took nearly twenty minutes to load so I tried my discs and like I had said it stopped at around 24% of the formatting part of the install with the 1005 error. I feel the repair centre may not have investigated the damage thoroughly.
