Hi,
I would tend to agree with you and I would have thought that since it was obviously noticed, they should have investigated the cause of the very slow booting before returning the notebook to you in case it was related to the original incident.
It's certainly possible that some liquid found its way to the Hard Drive and given the symptoms of very slow booting and the inability to reload the operating system, it would be the first device I would suspect.

Hi,
Before trying anything further, one thing to check is that the wireless card is turned on before starting the Recovery Process - although your particular Model series is not shown in This Document I would suggest trying the f11 recovery again if it was not turned on in the previous attempts.

Hi,
Ok, I think the next thing to try is completely wiping the Hard Drive first and then try reinstalling the Operating System using the Recovery Discs as follows.
Using another PC, download and install Killdisk on the link below - ( this application will write zeros to the entire Hard Drive leaving it in much the same state as a new drive would be in ).
http://software.lsoft.net/KillDiskSuiteFree-Setup.
Download and install ImgBurn on the link below.
http://download.cnet.com/ImgBurn/3000-2646_4-10847
Go to the Kill Disk application you have installed in All Programs, open the main folder, then select Bootable Disk creators and from that select Bootable DOS CD Creator which will burn the bootable ISO to a blank CD.
During the next process do not worry about any warnings as your Recovery DVDs will reformat the HDD.
Insert this CD in to your notebook and boot from the Killdisk CD.
A brief description of the process is here Killdisk.
Use this to wipe the whole of the Hard Drive, highlight (80h) and press f10 ( you will also have to type a confirmation and hit enter ) - ( this will make sure you include all partitions and then start the process - this may take a couple of hours! ).
When the process is complete, remove the Killdisk CD, insert your first HP Recovery Disc and try the installation again.
Let me know how this goes and whether you still get the same/different error when trying to reinstall Vista.

DP-K

Hi,
Thanks for replying and you're welcome for the help ![]()
That's definitely the best option as it really should have been A1 when you first got it back.
Best Regards,
DP-K
