I replaced the hard drive in my laptop. I ordered the recovery disks from HP. I installed the hard drive, started the computer so I could put the recovery disk in the CD rom tray. I shut off the laptop and started it back up again. It is asking for a power on password. I unplugged the cmos battery for 30 seconds, that did not fix it. I called HP. AMAZINGLY they actually gave me a little info without charging me $50.00. They said the password is stored in the BIOS. Is there any way to remove this password if I do not remember it?

Removing the RTC battery for five minutes or more should clear the password from BIOS.

That is the little quarter size watch battery. It is also called the BIOS or CMOS battery.
