HP Envy M6 CANT RESTORE!!!

Ok, to make a long story short and cut out all the un-needed info, i was informed by a tech to take another copy of windows and install it onto my hard drive to correct some partition issues created. After attempting to install my windows 7 on the laptop but endless failures because of the GPT file partition system and such i was sent some recovery DVD's. I get through to the end and it simply says recovery failed.

My options are SAVE LOG, Details, RETRY..... Retry ejects the tray asking for Disk 1 to redo the entire process again. Details says

ChkErrBB.CMD: Detect some error during PININST_BBV.

Its and endless loop and VERY annoying. I have tried resetting the bios to factory settings. removing the wifi card, redoing the recovery 8 times, skipping the "application an driver dvd" because its just stuff you try an get you to buy products etc. The only thing i get told by tech support OVER and OVER is to try an do the recovery again and if it fails to call back. Ive been without my laptop for a week now, failed an exam tonight because i didnt have my laptop for class and i was promised these dvd's would restore all the partitions and what not. The 1st rep who helped me totally screwed the partitions up by having me do some dumb stuff and now im just getting **bleep** on. I have a direct ## to a manager because my case has been escalated, but she herself has admitted she is not a technical person, so its not much help..... Can anyone help with this issue? Im almost at the point of disputting the charges on my credit card since it was bought 2 months ago and past store return. Defective product, cant get support they wont RMA my laptop nodda. Just want to send me recovery dvd's and i even paid for some that were never shipped..........

Re: HP Envy M6 CANT RESTORE!!!

So, I was having the same exact issue as you with my brand spanking new Envy 4-1130us. I had upgraded the RAM from 6GB to 16GB, and that turned out to be the issue.

The problem was with the configuration of the Intel Rapid Start Technology and the Intel Smart Response Technology on the 32GB mSATA SSD. The smart response technology requires a parition that equals the RAM size, and the rapid start technology requires a partition of at least 18.6GB. For my case, 16GB + 18.6GB = 34.6, which exeeds the 32GB (actually 30GB usable) of the mSATA SSD.

So, to fix it I swapped back in the 6GB RAM sticks and the recovery manager seems to be working fine. I guess the only real options to fix this are to swap back in the original RAM or upgrade the mSATA SSD to a larger size.

Hope this helps.

Re: HP Envy M6 CANT RESTORE!!!

Hey,

Thanks for the information, but i dont think it will help me. This laptop is 100% stock with all the same exact hardware as when it was purchased.... I can take my retail windows 7 ultimate and install it just fine, just have to use another pc to download a TON of drivers and i lose all the hp software that i want :smileysad:..... My case manager is in the process of having a new hdd shipped out to me, guess we will see if that fixes it.

Re: HP Envy M6 CANT RESTORE!!!

Hello st0n3r.  I apologize that you've been having issues getting your recovery to complete.

If you do reinstall Windows 7 with a retail disc there are some things you can do to expedite the process.  First, download and install the HP Software Framework and HP Support Assistant.  This will allow you to run HP Support Assistant to install most of the remaining software and drivers.

If you need to reinstall any of the third-party applications which came with the notebook you can use the HP Recovery Manager.

I hope this is helpful.  Have a great day.

Re: HP Envy M6 CANT RESTORE!!!

The HP Recovery Manager you link doesnt work. It gives an error about missing harddisk.dll or something and just closes........................ Any other ideas to get the factory software back on using my OWN OS since i cant seem to extract my windows 8 product key from recovery discs?

Re: HP Envy M6 CANT RESTORE!!!

Well slapped in my other hdd with Win 8 OEM installed and downloaded previous versions of the bios along with current bios. Tried running the restore and nothing again. Im so sick of this right now Im literally on the verge of just doing a charge back with the cc company, getting a refund, selling this laptop on craigslist an than going to buy something else. This is pathetic 11 days and counting trying to restore this **bleep** thing. I can take OEM windows 8 and install perfectly without any issues. I try to run a factory restore and it wont go? Its 100% stock parts from HP  that were originally in it and you cant even get it back...............................
