I had to do a full system restore on my laptop a few nights ago as it stopped responding. I backed up all my files onto a USB hard drive, and have now tried to restore my files back onto my laptop via the recovery manager, however it runs for about 30 minutes (whilst staying on 0% but still "restoring") then comes up with the typical windows message of
"Recovery manager has stopped working.. a problem caused the program to stop working correctly."
I've tried this a few times, and have also tried restoring using the windows restore file feature, but it asks me to select a back up device to restore files from, but does not recognise my USB hard drive.
Help is really needed as soon as possible as I really need to access my files!
THANKYOU! ![]()
if it helps, it's a HP G62 NOTEBOOK PC ![]()

Inside the folder that was created to store the backup files should be another folder with large .wim files, these are your files.
You can use 7-Zip to de-compress these .wim files so you can sort through them to find your files.
Unfortunately HP backup even when it works does not put the files back where they belong, and it backs up tons of files you don't need, so its a task to look through all the uncompressed files and folders to get what you need.

you should be able to right click on one of the wim files and select extract from the context menu, then show it where you want to extract it to, I would First make New folder on the C drive and extract all the wim files to that New folder.

Thank you so much!
That worked totally, but found that somehow my laptop did actually save all my files during the restoration process, but to anyone who found that didn't work, 7zip totally did!
