HP G62 Windows 7 64 bit Restore will not stay on

Hi apparently I have statemgr.exe missing and this is causing my restore to keep switching off, although both C and D drives boxes are checked.

Any ideas, I do not have a Windows CD as it was pre loaded when I purchased it.

Please please help

Many thanks

Jim

Re: HP G62 Windows 7 64 bit Restore will not stay on

You really shouldn't enable Restore for the D: partition. It is only used to hold your windows reinstall files.

You may have a spyware/virus problem. Download the Free version of> MalwareBytes. Install, let it update and do a full scan.

As for a Windows install cd_you have HP Recovery Manager which can be used to do a fresh install back to Factory_And burn a Windows Recovery DVD set.

Re: HP G62 Windows 7 64 bit Restore will not stay on

Hi, I have disabled the restore for D drive as you advised. I have also run MalwareBytes, however its still the same.

I have the restore set of DVDs, i do not want to do a complete restore if I can help it. Is it possible to extract statemgr.exe from the restore set?

Many thanks

Re: HP G62 Windows 7 64 bit Restore will not stay on

If this problem has occurred in the last month or so you might try System Restore to roll back the settings to an earlier time.. You can  initiate a System Restore from the Start menu shortcut in All Programs,Accessories, System Tools-System Restore

Re: HP G62 Windows 7 64 bit Restore will not stay on

Hi again, sorry to be a pain. There are no restore points at all. It,s beginning to look like a complete restore and I really was trying to avoid that

Also apologies for the delays in replying, maybe its because I am in England.

Any other ideas very welcome.

Many thanks for your help so far.

Best wishes,

Jim

You might try a file check to see if the file can be restored.  Start, All Programs,Accessories, Command Prompt. Right click Command Prompt, choose 'Run as administrator'. In the window that opens type sfc /scannow Note the space after sfc.

Re: HP G62 Windows 7 64 bit Restore will not stay on

Hi, I had already run this, however, I ran it again but still no luck.

I am away from Mon to Thurs, so if you think of anything else, I will be here tomorrow and then back on Fri evening.

I am at a complete loss as to this problem, but it is nice that someone else is trying to help.

Best Wishes,

Jim
