Re: HP G62 laptop, trying to recover using recovery discs

the size of the hdd deosnt matter when being replaced.

this is what i did:

downloaded installation disc of windows 7 and burned image of the iso

installed the OS

when asked about product key; i entered the product key from the back of my laptop for windows 7 and it got activated.

bottom line is, the recovery discs i made from hp's recovery software were corrupt. i could have ordered from hp but then i did not want to pay $14 and wait at least 7 days.

The size does matter, HP recovery will fail when going to a smaller hard drive, this does not apply to normal W7 installation discs, only HP recovery discs.

Re: HP G62 laptop, trying to recover using recovery discs

Before you run the hardware tests below, enter the bios and load default settings, then try install again. If it fails run the hardware diagnostics below.

Go to the link below and download the ISO file, burn it to a CD as an image (not data), boot from it, when it loads choose your language and keyboard, hit Next button, then "agree" button, it will say unsupported Model, just hit OK, when the next screen loads click Maintenance icon, next screen choose Insight Diagnostics icon, after diagnostics screen loads choose the Test tab, run the Quick tests (tick the "all devices" box), if everything checks out, hit the reload icon at the top and run the Complete test, tick the all devices box again. Leave the test mode on the defaults it selects for both tests.

Note any failures and post them.

Re: HP G62 laptop, trying to recover using recovery discs

I am having the same problem - the machine freezes after I load in all 5 recovery disks. I ran the iso diagnostics suggested, and it found no errors.

I cannot turn on the WiFi though, it just stays off, no matter how many times I push the key.

Any other ideas?
