Trying to help family member with a G65, Came to me not booting with Cap Lock flashing and also F12 illuminated. Somehow I got into the HP Tune up and let it run for 4 hours. Solved it all, and I was going to hand it back next day. I opened it up follwing morning and back to square one. Now I can't get it to do anything except blink and I can't count them as it is ongoing with no pause, also F12 is lit again. I did notice that there appears to be continuous activity from the DVD drive. It flickers all the time and there is no disk in it I have checked. None of the F keys do anything as I have tried them all on boot up. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Clive

Just an update. First off, apologies for typo on model. It should read G56.
I have removed optical drive and still no boot. I think I will have to return to my trusty old reliable bulletproof Thinkpad and bury the G56 somewhere!
Cheers
Clive

Try disconnectiing the hdd to see if it will boot into BIOS (F10).

Reinstall hdd and optical drive but disconnect any external devices.Try a hard reset.
1-remove power cord and battery
2-press power button for 30 seconds
3-reinstall only power cord for first startup.
4-power on

Since you can't determine the number of flashes, try the " BIOS authentication failure" recovery process mentioned near bottom of the page HERE
In cases such as this about the only thing to do is follow all standard processes of elimination. The next I would try is removing 1 stick of memory to see if it boots,no joy switch the sticks and try again. Just press out on the tabs at each end of memory slot to remove.

Did the all four arrows thing as it said but just the same. It only has one 2gb stick of ram so I removed and tried for Bios but just the same. Replaced the ram in the other slot but still no joy. I appreciate this has to be a process of elimination and I have lots of patience. I just appreciate your help.
Than you
Clive

You do have patience.
I am afraid I'm at the bottom of my bag of ideas. Ram,CD/DVD, hdd all eliminated, hard reset performed, BIOS recovery attempted. This is looking more & more like a system board failure.
You could try a new stick of memory, or compatible one from another laptop.Seems odd the F12 is lit up , it is the wireless adapter indicator. You could remove it on the wild chance....
I did find another thread with a similiar issue, but no resolution there either>> CQ56 Although the BIOS blink codes supposedly offer the problem and resolution it has been my observation that most if not all cases of any sequence of blinks leads to no resolution.
